I couldn’t settle on a celeb house to feature for my Sunday estate so instead we are looking at one that might be a bit of candy for a celebrity with an architecture jones. The Wolff House was built by John Lautner in 1961 (you may remember the name from the recent sale of Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette’s sale of a Lautner in Malibu). This home a three-bedroom in the Hollywood Hills, is a a modernist treasure in wood and stone and glass. The house is on a private cul-de-sac and has an amazing view. Other features include a one-bedroom guesthouse and a beautiful pool. An article in Variety from 2005 indicates that the home was sold in 2005 for around $4 million. It is listed now at $5.995 million.

The Turtle House a unique house in the Enchanted Forest of Big Sur is a beautiful, if small, home. The name comes from the design, a hexagonal center with four arms that stretch out into the forest next to a creek and a head that has a hot tub. Despite the sylvan location this home is wired with the latest technology including wi-fi, a security system, a home theater and a Lutron lighting system. There is also a hydraulic lift in the garage that holds four cars. The home has a warm floor heating system and uses a propane furnace. Water comes from a gravity, spring-fed water system. The home is just 1600 square feet and is furnished with pieces that were custom designed and built for the home by Morris Sheppard/Sheppard Design. The living room includes a wood stove on a granite hearth and the study/library has two desks back to back with views and a fax machine. The gourmet kitchen has a Wolf stove, All-Clad cookware, a microwave, dishwasher, and granite counters and the dining room is cantilevered over the creek. No need to bring your own bed, the master bedroom has a platform queen bed meant to match perfectly with the skylight above. It is listed at $8 million.

The latest Belize resort is the massive Ara Macao Resort and Marina project. The project is a 582-acre planned community on the Placencia coastline. It will include a golf course, hotel, condominiums, villa, a large marina, restaurants and a casino. The resort has opened a Charter Member program that offers the next 50 purchasers a five-day trip to Belize. Prices for condo units start in the low $400,000s.

There has been some concern over the project’s grand scale but an interview with developer Paul Goguen says that Ara Macao is only a quarter of the new development planned for the area. He also says that the project will bring much-needed infrastructure to the area and is turning swamp land into a producing asset for the Belize government through taxes and jobs.

This might be my favorite Jackson, Wyoming home yet. It’s a great modern riff on the log cabin. Glass and wood dominate the contemporary home which sits on five acres atop gated North Gros Ventre Butte. The home’s large glass windows offer gorgeous mountain views. The beige-on-beige color scheme isn’t the most thrilling I have seen but the spare design means that you can bring your modern furniture to your Wyoming home and it won’t look horribly out of place. This home is listed at $7.25 million.

This huge country manor is so large that it could easily be pressed into business as a unique hotel. The estate is 150 acres that includes forests, a freshwater stream, cattle pastures, walking trails, gardens and a pond. The home includes a large living room, formal dining room, a large kitchen, 11 bedrooms and an indoor pool.

The home belongs to George Ross Eaton, a Canadian department store heir. It was designed by Thierry Despont and building of this expansive over 28,000-foot mansion began in the late 1980s but didn’t finish up until 1996 at a reported cost of $20 million Canadian. A few years later, facing tax problems, Eaton put the home on the market for that price but didn’t get any takers. He later took the house off the market. An article I found on Canadians For Properly Built Homes, details a fascinating saga in which Eaton alleges a number of problems with the home. Another piece, in the Toronto Star, reports on a lawsuit in which the Eatons claimed they suffered fatigue, headaches and respiratory problems while living in the home. They say they spent over $4 million repairing the home.

Now the home is on the market for an undisclosed price. It’s a rather particular home, heavy on the wallpaper and velvet, lavish certainly but old-fashioned and even a touch gloomy. Larger pics of this white elephant in the gallery or a all at once after the jump.

[Thanks, Sean!]

South Florida hasn’t exactly been the hub of the green movement but an ambitious new project in the city of Plantation might help to change that. A 33-acre development called 321 North seeks to create a new green town center for the city of Plantation. The $350 billion project includes 600 residential units, office space and a revamped shopping mall all within walking distance. A local news station, NBC6, checked out the development which will be created with eco-friendly materials including zinc siding and green screens where plants can grow to create natural shade. On the interior the bamboo and palm wood and products made of recycled materials continue the green theme. The development also is part of a nationwide pilot program to expand LEED beyond individual buildings to creating entire eco-friendly neighborhoods. Construction is expected to begin next year.

Another famous blockbuster estate has hit the market and it will most likely be the most expensive sale in Minnesota history. Southways is a huge mansion in the elite area of Brackett’s Point in Orono, Minnesota which has served as the summer home for the Pillsbury family. The estate includes seven structures including a caretaker’s cottage/greenhouse, garage, pool complex, smoke room and tea house on nearly 13 acres. It sits on Lake Minnetonka and has lovely views but the magic is on the inside on this one, the finishes and details are absolutely flawless. There are nine bedrooms in the 32,400-square-foot-main house. It was designed in 1916-1918 by Harrie T. Lindberg and was used by the Pillsbury family until the early 1990s. It has been lovingly restored by the Jundt family and played host to President Bush last summer. The Pioneer Press reports that according to real estate agent Bruce Birkeland, the family is downsizing. Can the Jundts get their price of $53.5 million? It sounds a bit optimistic but this lovely home will almost certainly be a record breaker.

Larger pictures are in the gallery and definitely worth checking out, especially for the mural in the exercise room/spa and the amazing details on the fireplace.

[Thanks, Jeffrey!]

London’s Canary Wharf is the site of a bunch of new developments. The Sunday Times has an article on some of the most lavish development including the most lavish, the Pan Peninsula, a residential skyscraper that includes 20 penthouse apartments that range in price from £2.5 million to £12 million for 1,652 to 7,714 sq ft of space. What do you get for your cash? Penthouse owners get butler service as well as access to a cocktail bar on the 31st floor, a private cinema, spa, gym and restaurant. Penthouses will also be custom designed to the owner’s tastes. The model apartments for the development show off features like gray marble bathrooms with automatically-flushing toilets and heated walls to warm towels.
